Play On Nanaimo

Play On! Nanaimo is your own  Miniature Art Collection
(54 original  works of art) on a deck of playing cards!

Play On! Nanaimo is a project featuring your hometown! Says project manager, Kate Hynes  "I am so excited about this project. Such incredible talent, art and support from all the artists, individuals and businesses who have embraced this project, placed their resources into it and made it their own. I absolutely love Nanaimo and this deck showcases it in the most spectacular way. Actually, I can't wait to send the deck to friends and family in other parts of the country.

It all started with 54 blank canvases and 14 Vancouver Island artists were invited to create four unique pieces of art, (a suit of cards) each; all showcasing their work and our beautiful harbour city, Nanaimo. From the one of a kind tuck box featuring "Fall", by Grant Leier to the "Corner of the Globe" (7 ) by Judy Hilgeman, to an image of the Coast Bastion Hotel with its iconic namesake (The Bastion) alongside it by John Hofman, Nanaimo residents will recognize many of our familiar landmarks and sites. Our parks, people, beaches and history are represented in this stunning deck of playing cards . Artists include Carey Anderson, Emily Bourke, Valerie Capewell, Dan F. Gray, Dirk Heydemann, Judy Hilgemann, Gerda Hofman, John Hofman, Teresa Knight, Grant Leier, Helene McIntosh, Marilyn Peeters, and Cecile Van Woensel.

The Deck of cards makes a great souvenir or unique artisan gift. They are printed by the United States Playing Card Company that prints Bicycle, Bee and Hoyle Cards and will be available for purchase for $10 per deck or 3 decks for $20.

The Play On Nanaimo Project was made possible through the businesses that sponsored a card in the deck, they include: the Coast Bastion Hotel, Coastal Community Credit Union, Dog N' Suds Pet Services, Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association, HA Photography, HarbourLiving.ca, Nanaimo Airport Authority, Nanaimo Clippers, The Port Theatre, Tourism Nanaimo, Turley's Florist and Woodgrove Centre.
